About Us

Welcome

Bonnieville is a rural city located in Hart County Kentucky, rich in history, whose citizens possess a strong foundation of community spirit.  Located in Cave Country,  in South Central Kentucky right off of Exit 71 on Interstate 65. Settlers began moving in the area during the 1780’s, but the town was not established until 1849. Originally called Bacon Creek, deriving its name from the creek that ran through the settlement, its residents petitioned the legislature in 1880 to have the name changed to Bonnieville after the Scottish song, “Bonnie Annie Laurie”.  By the 1850’s the L&N railroad had been completed, giving the town the unofficial name of Bacon Creek Station.

Our Community

Bonnieville hosts many family friendly events throughout the year. The first weekend in May is the annual yard sale weekend along 31W. June marks the annual WHAS TV Crusade for Children weekend. Due to the year round efforts of the Bonnieville Volunteer Fire Department, the community is regularly at the top of the list for per capita contributions to Louisville's WHAS Crusade for Children. July 4thBonnieville hosts an old fashioned Homecoming Celebration. We continue to hold precious our heritage and our history of both the creek and the railroad. The Bacon Creek Watershed Council continues to work on improving water quality issues of Bacon Creek. December includes the worldwide ‘Wreaths Across America’ ceremony to remember our veterans, honor the families and teach our children. Because of the efforts to honor US Veterans, Bonnieville has been designated a “Purple Heart City”. Continuing a long time Christmas tradition, the arrival of Santa is celebrated at the Bonnieville firehouse the Saturday before Christmas and on Christmas Day the annual Hart County Community Christmas Dinner is held. Come visit Bonnieville, see what the buzz is about and see what’s coming next. When our community works together, all things are possible.
